After 18 months of meetings, planning, interviews, writing, and enormous commitment from both the Museum of Brisbane and Margot McKinney and her team, an exhibition that traces Margot’s life’s work has opened, described by MoB director Renai Grace as ‘the most ambitious exhibition the Museum has ever undertaken’. It offers a rare experience to see the most incredible pearls, opals and gems from all over the world, of rare size and quality, in spaces designed to reflect the natural origins of these ‘miracles of nature’. I was honoured to work with the MoB team and Margot to curate the exhibition (with MoB Associate Curator Emma McLean) and write the accompanying book which relates a few of the stories that have informed Margot’s life and artistry.
