Recording a Webinar for Flying Arts Alliance with John Stafford on 12 May 2014 on the subject of writing about art was a great reminder of the privilege and significance of words to document, extend and analyse the art that we see. Thanks to FAA and to John for facilitating such a delightful conversation. Here is the link to John’s previous Artist Talk with Michael Cook. (http://vimeo.com/90912534)
Also 13 May 2014 was budget day in Australia. This is a plea for the enormous value of the arts to the psyche, hearts and minds of even those who would profess themselves uninvolved (whilst listening to music, Australian drama, reading books, newspapers and magazines). The arts deliver so much for so little, and offer a unique experience for all visitors, the discussion of ideas and concepts outside the everyday, cultural tourism, and the opportunity to reflect on what defines us – as individuals. Here’s hoping that the Australian government will see it that way:)
Art is the rattling of our cage.
