At the close of 2014 Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, the news was upbeat. CEO Alison Copley said an impressive $168,000 of art sales took place on opening night, and similar level went through on Saturday.
“This year’s Fair in particular has been significant in facilitating the acquisition of works by major institutions. The National Museum in Canberra has committed to the purchase of the ghostnet dinghy ‘Loyalty’, ‘Ilum’ the giant squid and one of the hanging fish from the Erub Erwer Meta (Darnley Island Arts Centre).”
She added, “Sales for our textile merchandising fashion pop-up store on Friday night were also impressive in accounting for $3,700,” she said.
